A Story of Tradition, Family & Flavour

Our Story...

Ali grew up in Afghanistan in a culture where family, community, and tradition shaped everyday life. His childhood was filled with shared meals, local celebrations, and customs passed down through generations. Afghan cuisine, known for its rich flavours and strong sense of hospitality, was a constant presence and an important way people connected.

When he moved to New Zealand to begin a new chapter, he brought those memories and values with him. While building a new life in a different country, he stayed closely connected to his roots. Food became a natural way to stay connected to home and to share his culture with others.

Over time, he saw an opportunity to introduce people to the flavours and traditions he grew up with. This led him to open Afghan Hut, a place built around sharing authentic Afghan cuisine in a warm and welcoming setting. The goal was not only to serve food, but to create an experience that reflects the hospitality and generosity central to Afghan culture.

Today, Afghan Hut brings people together over traditional dishes, offering a glimpse into Afghan culture through food, atmosphere, and the spirit of hospitality that inspired it from the beginning.
